The Tokyo Sessions

For the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, I am making a documentary about the recording of my twin brother’s new album in Tokyo. Here’s a short teaser:

This is Water by Reinier Baas & Ben van Gelder

Two fish are swimming in the ocean. One says to the other "The water's nice today isn't it?" The other replies: "What's water?"

This was the starting point for Ben van Gelder and Renier Baas' latest musical collaboration. They asked me to make a short film to accompany the music so I decided to spend some time roaming the streets of Amsterdam with my camera and a bag full of old Nikon lenses that I borrowed from my friend Gabor Deak, who also helped me shoot the music sequence.

In 1978 my 13 year-old sister died in a car accident and was buried in a small cemetery south of Amsterdam. Since then Schiphol, the Dutch national airport, has expanded rapidly.
